Raul Midón is a singular voice in contemporary music—a masterful singer-songwriter, guitarist, and composer whose genre-defying sound seamlessly blends jazz, soul, folk, and pop. The New York Times aptly described his music as "a three-way fusion of Stevie Wonder, Bobby McFerrin, and José Feliciano," a comparison that captures both his extraordinary musicianship and unmistakable originality.
Over the course of his acclaimed career, Midón has collaborated with an impressive roster of legendary artists, including Bill Withers, Herbie Hancock, Terence Blanchard, and Spike Lee. His albums Bad Ass and Blind and If You Really Want earned consecutive Grammy nominations for Best Jazz Vocal Album, further cementing his reputation as one of today's most distinctive musical voices.
A longtime creative partner of celebrated conductor and arranger Vince Mendoza, Midón has brought ambitious orchestral projects to life, including If You Really Want with the Metropole Orkest, a tribute to Joni Mitchell with the National Symphony Orchestra at The Kennedy Center, and a forthcoming recording with Germany's WDR Big Band, slated for release in 2026/2027.
From his home studio, Midón continues to push artistic and technical boundaries as both performer and recording engineer. Blind since infancy, he has developed innovative approaches to music production that reflect the same creativity and resilience found in his performances. Since his major-label debut State of Mind—produced by the legendary Arif Mardin and Joe Mardin—he has maintained a close collaboration with New York engineer Michael O'Reilly, helping shape the rich, distinctive sound that has become his signature.
